Outings Group

The Outings Group is run by a team of 3 – Brenda Taylor, Christine Storey and Sandra Thompson.

The outings group recently visited Newby Hall, Nr. Ripon. We were treated to a very informative tour of the house that boasted a wealth of Chippendale furniture, some beautiful decor and some very impressive tapestry, to mention just a small part of what was on show.

It was a shame we were subject to some less than good Yorkshire weather, however the gardens were still a treat to be enjoyed. The picture shows the house with the avenue leading to it.

Over the last few years we have found a variety of places to visit which are always informative but most of all very enjoyable. We normally go by coach but sometimes by public transport. Sometimes lunch is included. The outings are open to all members of our U3A.

Over the last few years our outings have been many and varied. We also support our local theatres, mainly the Colne Dramatic Society at the Little Theatre in Colne.

In 2016 we arranged some very good outings. In February we had a backstage tour of the Royal Exchange in Manchester. Ripon and Ripley Castle and had a Musical Tour in Liverpool. After more excellent days out, the year ended with 40 members attending a delightful Carol Concert and supper at Towneley Hall.

2017 started with a fascinating tour of Blackpool Winter Gardens followed by a visit to the M& S Archives in Leeds and continued with many varied and interesting trips including Wedgewood, Harrogate Flower Show, Sizergh Castle and in June a wonderful day at Conigshead Priory at Ulverston. The year continued by visiting the spectacular gardens at Arley Hall, a tour of St Helen’s Glass and ended with Tatton Hall at Christmas and in December we went to Towneley again for the festive concert as it is enjoyed so much by all our members.

2018 was very successful with even more people wanting to join our trips.

Lots more to look forward to this year including a cruise along the Upper Peak Forest Canal.

Come to our table at the meeting to put your name down for one of our trips. You will be met by a friendly face and the promise of an informative and sociable day out.
